A Mama Kitty's Work Is Never Done

After seven years and I can't even tell you how much money, I finally managed to have a grand total of 43 stray and feral cats in our neighborhood spayed and neutered.  Managed to find homes for 27 of those.  I'm left with way too many I care for every day, and my neighbor takes care of three.  I can tell you it's been hard work, but rewarding.  Unfortunately during those years I had to bury far too many of those little babies.  Living on a somewhat main road wasn't good for a feral colony I can tell you that.

I thought that those days were over.  Ha!  Today, while out working in the yard, a neighbor stops by and asks me if I know anyone looking for a cat.  Apparently someone dumped this little girl off down the street from our house and she's been hanging out in the woods and in a neighbors drainage ditch.  Nothing doing but I drag the family down there to check it out.  I tool some photographs and managed to run into the young lady helping to take care of her.  Both were sweet as can be, and the little cat was just adorable.  Very loving, obviously wanting more than a ditch and a little spot in the woods for a home.

I can't for the life of me imagine why someone would just dump their cat.  Feral cats know what to do to survive.  The ordinary housecat raised in a home, is a little bit lost when they're suddenly just dumped out into the wild with no one to feed them or make sure they have fresh water.  It literally breaks my heart.  Anyway, I hit up my old rescue page and have a few nibbles on a maybe foster home for her until we can find her forever home.

People, I can't say it loud enough or long enough, take care of your pets.  Spay and or neuter them, don't take them on unless you are able to, and if you find yourself in a situation where you're unable to care for them any longer, find someone else who can.  Please for the love of GOD don't just dump them and hope they do okay.  Look at this little sweetie and say a little prayer that someone will take her in and love her for the rest of her life!

Kitties and Boxes?

Guest Blogger: AubrieAnne @ http://whosyoureditor.blogspot.com/

Well, I know that Donna LOVES her little kitties so I just found it fitting to write about kittens and share some pictures with you of the adorably loving Kiki (my best friend’s kitty.)

Okay, has anyone seen that YouTube video where a kitty tries to fit into all these different sized boxes, even the ones that it obviously will never fit into? Well, my best friend and I decided to test the theory…Do kitties try and fit into any box that is placed in front of them. The answer is…YES, they do!

Exhibit One…

EPIC FAIL! This is a chocolate box, about the size of a shoe box, but much, MUCH shallower. Kiki tried desperately to fit in it, but alas she was delusional. There is no possible way for her to fit in that box

Exhibit Two…

This box was more to Kiki’s size, but she simply could not figure out how to make it work for her. She could get her head in, but not her butt. She could get her butt in, but not her head. Poor Kiki. I think she actually could fit, but was too afraid to crawl into the back which was covered. Also, the flash on my camera was a bit distracting to her. It did get her to look at me though.

Exhibit Three…

Something still isn’t right, LOL. I do think Kiki enjoyed this box the most. She’d charge it and slid right in. My friend and I also thought it extra funny that she was in a “diet” box when she’s actually quite the chubber. We say that she has a beer belly!

Anyway, just more proof that kitties truly will try and fit into any box you place in front of them. On the up side, you should never have to buy your little darlings any toys! I also find that kitties like, drizzling water, ping pong balls, paper balls, nerf darts, and paper bags! Now, go have fun with them!

Rain Rain, Change to Snow. Please?

Yes, it's a rainy day in the town that ruined Christmas.

I'm refusing to watch the weather, instead waking up every morning hoping there's some of that lovely white stuff on the ground.  So far, that one little dusting is all we've gotten.  I refuse to believe that we'll be denied snow this winter.  They said it would be a dry season, (unlike dry county, which would suck, just so you know) but it's been raining for daaaaaaaaaaays.  How is that dry, dear weatherman?  Now all I need is a little cold air, a nor'easter and some good old fashioned luck.

Surprisingly, I woke up at 11:30 a.m. this morning.  Yeah, for me that's more like it.  Not that I didn't enjoy waking up at the butt crack of dawn, I got a lot done, but I pay for it.  Dearly.  As in "Oh honey, I'm so glad you suggested.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz".  No, not sex you pervs!  Although come to think of it, that's probably exactly what he was suggesting.  Hm.  Funny.

So hubs is out doing his good deed taking a friend without a license around town to pick up some things he needed.  The kitty princess is still in her nice warm waterbed, bestie is working, and I'm all alone for the most part in a quiet house.  I'm thinking a cup of russian tea and a movie is in my immediate future.  And maybe a warm furry body or two snuggled up on the couch with me.  Oh and lots of candles.

I really do enjoy these little quiet times I manage to steal in the middle of the day.  I don't mind going out, I'm one of those people who dread the thought until I'm actually out, then I enjoy it, but I'm most assuredly a home body.  I've spent the last 17 years making my house a home and for the most part, I love it.  There's too much stuff, too many plants, way too many cats, and it forever needs vacuuming, but it's mine and it makes me happy being here.  Not to mention I appreciate it a whole lot more since we've almost lost it three times now.  And knowing Bank of America, you can add counting.  Three times and counting.  They seem to love my home as much as I do if the times they've tried to foreclose on it count for anything.

I know I've got another blog to post on, and more people to discover and more lovies to leave here and there, but ladies and gentlemen, it's time for a little me time!  Now I just hope I don't turn the tv on and someone had it on the weather channel.  Bleh.  We WILL have snow damnit!  I insist, and we all know....

When Mama Kitty's not happy, nobody's happy.

Until later lovies!  Toodles!
